Donated Books & Materials

What materials does the Basehor Community Library accept as donations?

We accept books, CDs and DVDs according to our Collection Development policy: “Gifts or donations of books or other materials will be accepted by the library with the understanding that they may be used or disposed of as the library determines as appropriate. This will be determined by using the same criteria set forth in the policy for the selection of library materials.” Library staff members evaluate all materials to see if the materials can be added to the collection.

Donated items that do not meet established criteria for placement in the collection will not be returned to the donor but may be sold by the Friends of the Basehor Library at one of their book sales. Donated items may also be sold online, disposed of as trash, or recycled.  The Friends of the Basehor Library usually hold a book sale twice a year.

Are there any materials the Library does not accept as donations?

We do not accept:

  • cassette tapes
  • video tapes
  • records
  • magazines (including National Geographic)
  • Reader’s Digest condensed books
  • broken or damaged items
  • non-book or media items (e.g. toys, calendars, cards, etc.)
  • personally recorded audio or video items
